I feel like they traditionally add a character from a Fire Emblem game that was released after the Smash Bros. game they would eventually be in, Corrin in this case is from Fire Emblem Fates, which released after Super Smash Bros. 4, and at the time Corrin was announced, Fire Emblem Fates had only released in Japan, and before Corrin's inclusion, Greninja was the most recent character in video game debut. This would then be repeated where Byleth was included in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the difference was that Fire Emblem: Three Houses was released, but it wasn't at the time Ultimate came out, and before Byleth's inclusion, Incineroar was the most recent character in video game debut, this feels like a trend that a Pokémon character from the most recent generation at the time would be the most recent character, and then a character from a Fire Emblem game that released after that Smash Bros. game would then be added. Had Roy not been included in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pichu would have been the most recent character in Melee, and Roy's game was released after Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Going over the stages you fight Corrin and other characters that made their debut in 2015-2007, and you can fight either male or female Corrin, the stages in the 3DS version are Rainbow Road, Prism Tower, Arena Ferox, Gaur Plain, and Umbra Clock Tower, and in the Wii U version, the stages are Mario Galaxy, Kalos Pokémon League, Coliseum, Skyworld, Wii Fit Studio, and Umbra Clock Tower.
Torrential Roar is a move that was made for Smash Bros. much like Ike's Great Aether, and in the Final Smash Trophy, Corrin uses this move on Bowser and Jigglypuff to trap them in a vortex of water.
