I play as Shulk in this video, and he is from a series that was not represented prior to this game, Shulk is from Xenoblade Chronicles, and he is the last base roster character announced, although the roster did get leaked a week before his reveal. If you didn't know, a month before Super Smash Bros. for 3DS came out, the entire roster got leaked, and at first we weren't sure if this was real or not, I didn't believe it was real when I saw characters like Dark Pit and Duck Hunt Duo, but it ended up being real, and when Shulk was announced, his artwork matched the leaked images. Shulk is a unique character, his sword is the Monado, and he can use different kinds of Arts to improve his stats in battle. His placement on the roster is different between versions, in the 3DS version, he is placed between Lucina and Pac-Man, and on the Wii U roster, he is placed between Wii Fit Trainer and Dr. Mario.
Going over Classic Mode, in Rounds 1 to 3, you fight characters in their default costumes, in Rounds 4 and 5, you fight characters in their alternate costumes, in Round 6, you fight against the Fighting Mii Team, and in the final round, you fight Master Hand, and on Intensity 3.0 or higher, you fight Crazy Hand as well, and on an even higher Intensity, you fight Master Core.
The next thing is Shulk's custom moves, as this is the only game in the series to have custom moves, his neutral special is Monado Arts, and you cannot quick-select them like in Ultimate when you hold down B, instead you press B repeatedly, the order is Jump, Speed, Shield, Buster, and Smash. Jump increases Shulk's jump height and air speed, but he takes more damage and has increased falling speed. Speed increases Shulk's movement speed and air speed, he deals less damage, Shield reduces the knockback and damage taken, but it decreases his jump height, air speed, and damage dealt. Buster increases damage dealt, but he takes more damage, while Smash increases knockback of moves, but he deals less damage and and he receives more knockback, Kirby can even receive those boosts if he copies Shulk. The first variant for that move is Decisive Monado Arts, the positive effects are boosted, and they last for 5 seconds, and they have a 5 second cooldown, the downside is once the Art is activated, it cannot be cancelled out, the other variant is Hyper Monado Arts, which increases both positive and negative effects, making it a high-risk high-reward custom move, the Arts last for 5 seconds and they take 5 seconds to recharge. Shulk's side special is Back Slash, this move deals more damage if used against an opponent from behind, the first variant is Back Slash Leap, Shulk leaps high into the air before slashing towards the ground, and it has a faster start-up, the other is Back Slash Charge, Shulk gains super armour when used, but it has less knockback and damage if it does not strike the opponent from behind. Shulk's up special is Air Slash, which does gain extra height when Jump is active, the first variant is Advancing Air Slash, the first strike launches opponents diagonally, the second strike has more knockback, the other variant is Mighty Air Slash, which has less range, but it deals more damage. Then for Shulk's down special, Vision, possibly one of the best counterattacks in the game, the first variant of that move is Dash Vision, which has increased range as Shulk dashes forward, the move is faster, the other variant is Power Vision, which is much more powerful, but it is slower and when used consecutively, it becomes less effective.
