I play as Dr. Mario in Classic Mode for this video, and what I do is randomize a list to decide my next fighters when doing these videos, but my playlist will display the fighters in order of how they are displayed on the roster. Dr. Mario's Classic Mode route is Colorful Treatment Plan, and he fights opponents in trios of the same character in red, blue, and yellow costumes, referencing the Viruses in the Dr. Mario games.
To unlock Dr. Mario, there are many different ways, one of them is Vs. Matches, where Dr. Mario is the 62nd character to be unlocked, and he is the 7th character unlocked by completing Classic Mode with Mario or anyone in his unlock tree after Roy.
Going over Dr. Mario's Classic Mode route, in Round 1, you fight the Mr. Game & Watch team, they are fought on Flat Zone X, in Round 2, you fight the Kirby team on Green Greens, in Round 3, your opponents are the Yoshi team, and the stage is Yoshi's Island. In Round 4, you fight the Wii Fit Trainer team, and the stage is Wii Fit Studio, in Round 5, you fight the R.O.B. team on Battlefield, and in Round 6, you fight the Wario team on Luigi's Mansion, this could be a reference to Wario's appearance in Dr. Mario 64.
Next up is the Bonus Stage, and at the end, you fight against Master Hand, and if you are playing on Intensity 7.0, you do have to fight Crazy Hand as well.
After completing Classic Mode, the credits will roll, and the music that plays is Fever from Dr. Mario, otherwise known as the Dr. Mario theme from Super Smash Bros. Melee, and if you completed Classic Mode with Dr. Mario for the first time, you unlock the Fighter Spirit for Dr. Mario.
A bit of trivia about Dr. Mario, this is the first game where Dr. Mario was planned to by playable from the start, this is because in this game, every character that has been playable throughout the Super Smash Bros. series is in this game, Dr. Mario was not originally planned for Melee, Wario was going to be playable instead, but Dr. Mario was chosen because he would be easier to develop into the game, and he was originally going to be an alternate costume to Mario in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U, much like what Alph is to Olimar, but in the end, Dr. Mario ended up being a separate character, the same also applied to Lucina and Dark Pit.
