This month's entry of #SuperSonicGameSaturday was a special program for multiple reasons. Given that Sonic The Hedgehog is celebrating its 30th anniversary this coming June 23rd, I felt that, for this monthly Sonic initiative I've been doing, this was the perfect time to play through the original Sonic The Hedgehog game from 1991 that started it all, but we played two games for this one. We played the Sega Genesis version that most everyone has played, but we also went through the Game Gear version, which is a different game that I felt was worth showing off as a compare and contrast (and thanks to Sonic Mega Collection Plus on the Xbox, we could do that easily, while also looking a bit more at the collection itself on the original system and with everything unlocked). However, I (Captain DiTrag) wasn't alone for this one and I couldn't think of a better stream to bring in fellow Sonic/video game fan Nocturne, who added a lot to the show in her debut episode (she'll be on for the next two streams), including her memories of this series, her reactions on seeing the Game Gear version for the first time (which made this a fun one to edit, by the way), her understandable stories of pain with Sonic 2 Game Gear (which we WILL return to in the future, albeit with the Sega Master System version) and a pretty eloquent summary of the Genesis original. I also found some interesting things that I'd never seen with these two before, along with the input and fun facts that we didn't know from the chat, so this was a great time and a great way to celebrate Sonic's gaming debut (but please excuse some of the audio noise on this one; I have to look into some tech on that end for next week's stream to address that).
