Surprise! It's a Colony - Distant Worlds 2 - #2 Teekan Release Build - Let's Play Hard Difficulty
104A welcome return to Distant Worlds 2 brings us some unfolding of the game's overall lore all while exploring the ruins of the Teekan exodus. Or the great hiding. The search for more snacks becomes more intense as there are now millions of extra mouths to feed in a move that makes me wonder "just how many children did you all cryogenically freeze?" And to pile onto matters, we also accidentally invite over a bunch of intergalactic refugees who aren't super keen on the planets in our system. For me failing with the tech tree and not getting us out of our solar system, this is a very active episode. So much for slow start -- will we ever get to the 4x part without first escaping the colony fishbowl?
Distant Worlds 2 is the follow up to Distant Worlds: Universe, and it's fair to say that not breaking a working formula has been the right play. The UI and presentation has been greatly improved, but Distant Worlds 2 still holds onto its mostly 4x roots where you are free to automate as much as you want while watching the private economy prop up your empire. Look out for blind tech tree excitement AND new story events that continues the story from Universe. Prior experience not required.
