Switch The Otterman Empire G1, 2P local splitscreen Free for All on Ottopolis, 1st practice play.
Our first The Otterman Empire gameplay! We take a moment to get used to things. Matches are split into three, 2 minute rounds. Vid timeline:
(5:18) Match starts. Round 1.
(7:44) Round 2.
(10:13) Rount 3. End scores!
We play as:
Player 1:
Character: Astrid.
Primary: Twin Pistols.
Special Ability: Guardian Drone.
Player 2:
Character: Noah.
Primary: Sniper.
Special Ability: Barrage of Fish.
Worth noting is that on the final round, what the game describes as a "hazard" makes an appearance. On this map, 2 drones or satellites that fire down a laser beam. Players caught will suffer a quite death!
This game Versus mode features a variety of wacky objectives. But for starters, we had that turned off, for practice purposes.
I took Astrid, with her Twin Pistols and Guardian Drone. The game's main character, she's good at everything, but master of none. Her ability which makes a police sound when activated, auto targets nearby enemies before unleashing a hail of fish, lol!
Meanwhile, my opponent choose Noah, the Sniper of the game. He can actually charge his weapon for more damaging blows. He's Special Ability allows him to bombard the area where he aims with fish from the sky.
So in this case, I reconned I had to be the aggressor vs an opponent that is better when played more defensively.
But things can get crazy because in addition to all characters being able to do what it's called Combat Rolls, they too all have Jetpacks. Put those two together and their ability to sprint, and the results are very highly mobile players!
From what I gather, The Otterman Empire was developed to serve as the Local Multiplayer equivalent of the likes of Splatoon, Morphies Law and Ninjala.
One similar mechanic to Splatoon for instance is that players here are required to submerge in rivers to recharge their Jetpacks and reload, in the same vein players in Splatoon have to submerge in their paint to reload.
Power ups that serve the same purposes, some in the open, others boxes and destructible objects are places around the map. There's one that fills up the Special Ability meter too.
