Swiv - Atari ST (Gameplay / Let's Play)
Swiv is a vertical scrolling shooter made by Sales Curve in 1991 for the Atari ST. It has been ported to a whole slew of other formats, however I am only looking at the ST version today. It's essentially a simple arcade game where its you against the world where you have to take down every enemy plane, tank or mounted machine gun in your way.
The one major difference between other shooters is the multi-player. One player plays as a helicopter with the other playing as a Jeep, obviously a Jeep cannot fly to it leads to a radically different experience. Overall its a nice twist and you'll want to play this in multi-player because this game is incredibly demanding. Bullets will flood the screen and you'll constantly be under fire from enemy forces, but thankfully you can just hold down the fire button so you don't have to worry about your finger getting tired.
Whilst it is hard its not unfairly difficult, you will find yourself over multiple plays getting slowly further and further. At the moment I can only get to around the 25% mark - yes the game does tell you how much you suck on the game over screen; it going to take a lot of improving to turn this video into a full walkthrough.
The overall the visuals are of good quality with some well drawn sprites even if the scrolling is a little bit jerky, however you probably won't notice it once the action starts and it plays very well with the joystick. My only real complaint here is the lack of music, but other than that this is an excellent shooter that is well worth playing.
