Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine - Sega Mega Drive (Scenario Mode Gameplay)
Mean Bean Machine is a re-branded version of the Puyo Puyo series which was only previously released in Japan for the Mega Drive / Genesis. The title was also released for the Master System and Game Gear which are faithful conversions and well worth looking at.
The game sees Sonic the Hedgehog's arch nemesis Dr. Eggman hatching a plan to ensure that no fun or music remains on Mobius. To do this he kidnaps the citizens of Beanville and pushes them into a machine called the Mean Bean-Steaming Machine to turn them into robot slaves. Puzzle games don't really need plots so don't look too far into this one.
The game is played with two rival opponents with beans falling in from the top. If you match up the colours into groups of four then they will disappear and you'll add an additional block to your opponent's screen. The bigger the chain you have, the more blocks that will be dumped to your rival. It's really simple to pick up and play and really difficult to master.
This is a really additictive puzzle game and my favourite for the Mega Drive.
