Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror Walkthrough Part 4: Saving Private Janzen
2Following the mission in Peru, Gabe and Lian ask Hargrove about the significance of the plants harvested by her team in the region with Hargrove denying any knowledge about their actual use for KemSynth, claiming to have believed that the company was working on an pesticide that would solve global hunger, although both Gabe and Lian remain unconvinced, aware that Red Section wouldn't have any use for a mere pesticide. However, they are unable to discover more from Hargrove before she leaves, much to Lian's outrage as she believes that Hargrove knows more about Dark Mirror than she is willing to let on. Continuing their investigation into Red Section's activities, IPCA discovers that Red Section is co-operating with Russian mafia within an smuggling ring operating out of the Kaliningrad enclave and have also set up operation in the Balkans, assisting Bosnian paramilitary group led by a man Goran Zimovic with their occupation of an abandoned weapons plant in Vogosca, Bosnia & Herzegovina in order to collect the containers of depleted uranium kept within. With UN peacekeepers preparing an assault in order to retake the plant and eliminate Zimovic's forces, Gabe has preparations made for the mission into Kaliningrad while opting to scope out the situation in Bosnia in the meantime. However, by the time he reaches the plant in Vogosca, UN's assault has already begun with Zimovic's forces, assisted by Red Section, being in obvious advantage. As he enters the plant, Gabe encounters an unarmed UN soldier being interrogated by one of Zimovic's militants and rescues him, discovering that he is a young Private named Janzen who ended up separated from the rest of his unit after they were massacred by Zimovic's forces. Taking pity on the young soldier, Gabe takes him along as they fight their way through severely damaged weapons plant and look for a radio uplink that would allow IPCA to syphon Red Section's local data for their own use, Gabe also intending to find a safe place to leave Janzen while he recovers from the shock of having lost his entire unit and destroy the containers of depleted uranium that haven't been collected by Red Section. Eventually, two men reach an medical tent erected in the plant's inner courtyard and encounter Richard Kress, UN's combat medic who asks Gabe to head off and locate medical supplies needed to treat severely injured soldier. Upon reaching the area where the supplies were supposedly left, Gabe discovers that the medical cabinet is empty and is contacted by Teressa who tells him that Kress is likely Red Section's mole within UN's peacekeepers. Realizing the implication and aware that Janzen, who was left with Kress is likely in mortal danger, Gabe prepares to rush back to the tent only to be ambushed by heavily armed militants, confirming IPCA's suspicions about Kress' true alegiance. After fighting his way back to the tent, Gabe's fears come true as he finds Janzen dead and Kress unaccounted for. Enraged by Kress' treachery, Gabe sets out to hunt him down, catching him at the back of the weapons plant as he prepares to load up the remaining uranium containers for transport and ultimately kills him after a brief shootout. However, immediately afterwards, Zimovic himself, commandeering an UN's main battle tank, enters the courtyard, forcing Gabe to destroy it and killing Zimovic in the process...
