Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow Walkthrough Part 5: Shifting Sands
5A plane hijacked by Gabe and Maggie in Georgia lands in an US airbase in Saudi Arabia with Maggie immediately being taken into custody while Cordell confronts Logan, asking him if he has managed to find Lian with Gabe telling him that she is likely in hiding with her husband, to which Cordell states that this is good since it means that Chinese haven't tracked Shen down, enraging Logan as he realizes that Cordell knew who Shen was all along and sent him on an needless goose chase. To counter him, Cordell shows him an burning oil field in an desert just beyond the airbase's perimeter, explaining that it was destroyed previous night. Realizing that Bitar destroyed the oil field using X-Z-2, a prototype weapon created by Shen, Gabe is shown the photo depicting Lian, Shen and Bitar somewhere with Cordell claiming that the photo proves that Lian has helped Shen defect in order to assist his terrorist activities before telling him that with IPCA shut down, he has officially been retired and having his men load Gabe onto an transport meant to take him back to the United States, despite Gabe's protests that Bitar will construct another X-Z-2.
Upon returning to the United States, Gabe heads to his apartment in Langley, Virginia where he finds an message left by Teressa pointing him towards the boxing gym in downtown Langley. Once there, Gabe discovers that just before IPCA was shut down, Teressa backed up all of its files and had them transferred into the gym, essentially transforming it into new headquarters for all-but-defunct agency. She proceeds to reveal that contrary to Cordell's claims, Lian didn't betray IPCA by siding with Bitar but is actually held prisoner by al-Jamil, proving her point by enlarging the photo Cordell had shown Gabe in Saudi Arabia, revealing that full photo actually reveals that Lian and Shen are being held at gunpoint. To make matters worse, Teressa also explains that Cordell has found out where Bitar's main base of operations is located and has ordered the air raid to destroy it. Realizing that Lian will be caught in the raid and killed, Gabe sets off towards the base as well in order to track Lian down and rescue her.
Following morning, Gabe reaches al-Jamil's base on the outskirts of Damascus, Syria and despite apparently having another three hours to breach the base and get Lian out before American bombardment commences, he witnesses the start of an air raid, realizing that Cordell likely went ahead with the planned schedule for the bombing. Hurrying towards the base enterance, Gabe encounters a tank commander pinned down by al-Jamil militants and upon saving him, gains his assistance as he uses his tank to help Gabe fight his way through al-Jamil's defenses set up in the canyon surrounding the base enterance. Eventually, Gabe and tank commander reach an road bridge leading directly towards the base's enterance and, upon clearing it, find their advance stopped as the end of the bridge is littered with anti-tank mines. As Gabe proceeds to defuse them, he notices that structural support beams of the bridge have been rigged with C4. Despite trying to get the tank commander to back away from the bridge immediately, explosives detonate, destroying the bridge and throwing both Gabe and tank into an canyon below with Gabe surviving while tank commander is killed as his tank explodes upon falling into the canyon. Forced to take a detour towards the base enterance through another section of the canyon, Gabe proceeds to fight through more al-Jamil militants before running into the remains of the US Army's unit sent into the area. With all but two of its members having been massacred by the nearby anti-infantry gun emplacements. Gabe assists them by co-ordinating the airstrikes on the gun emplacements and is then introduced to the unit's leader and demolitions expert nicknamed Boomer. With the base enterance being nearby, Gabe and Boomer fight their way towards it and manage to create an improvised enterance into the base by destroying part of the outer cave, although Boomer ends up killed in the explosion. With main bomber force approaching the base, Gabe tries to desperately call off the raid to no avail and fights his way into the underground base. As the base is bombed by the US Air Force, Gabe makes his way into the base and searches the holding cells, eventually finding Lian alive and well. However, their reunion is cut short as the bombing continues, forcing them to make their way out of the base. As they do, Gabe discovers that X-Z-2 wasn't meant to be a weapon but an energy source that was weaponized by Bitar. Making their way to the back exit of the caves, Gabe and Lian encounter Bitar's second-in-command, Malak as he loads up completed X-Z-2s for transport to Bitar. Aware that they'll need Malak to find out where Bitar and Shen are, Gabe and Lian engage him in an shootout during which Malak is killed. However, Gabe finds a map showing the location of Bitar's second base...
