The Clever Ways Games Break Themselves
Did you know that the developers of some of your favorite games like Cyberpunk, Super Mario Bros, Doom, and Bioshock often sneak in little secrets and tricks of programming to make you feel a certain way when playing?
Developers use all types of cleverly hidden game mechanics to build up tension, make you feel awesome, or just get you to play one more match. In 2017, game developer Jennifer Scheurle inadvertently “spoiled” a number of game design “magic tricks” when she posted calling for others to share their secrets.
Lead developers from game franchises like Assassins Creed, Bioshock, and Uncharted all came forward with some pretty interesting ways that they use game design to create unique player experiences.
