Why Google Killed its Stadia Games
Google announced it would be shutting down its Stadia exclusive game studios this week so we are breaking down what happened.
It’s true that Stadia has had some wins over the last year. The streaming service beefed up its game library and managed to be one of the best places for people to play Cyberpunk 2077 but that probably wasn’t quite enough to justify millions of dollars on developing exclusive games.
On the other hand, exclusive games is a tried and true way of enticing people who love games to give your platform a shot. Either way spending a ton of money on starting up some game studios and hiring game dev legends like Jade Raymond just to shut it all down with nothing to show isn’t a great look.
It’s hard to say what happens with Stadia from here since Google has enough money to lose on the platform indefinitely but how long will they want to?
