I recently picked up this $150 (Canadian) Denon record player for just $50 on clearance! I didn't even need one (I have a much nicer Technics direct drive player from the 80's) but at this price I just didn't want to pass it up!

So how does it sound compared to my Technics? Pretty damn good if you ask me! I honestly don't know if I would be able to tell them apart in a blind test. Keep in mind the Technics is running through a Behringer phono pre-amp and the Denon has a built in pre-amp. That's plus one for the Denon! But of course the Technics is much nicer with strobe light, speed adjustment, weighted tone arm, nice smooth cue, anti-skate adjustment and more. But finding old 80's era turntables in good working condition is only getting harder these days. This Denon can get the job done if you just want something to play some records! No it's not going to replace my Technics anytime soon. But maybe I should just keep it around as a backup? For the price of a replacement cartridge I got an entire brand new turntable!
