It's streams like this that make me apprehensive about declaring that the next stream for any particular game will be my last. Because even something that seems like a slam dunk can ultimately backfire on me if I don't know what to expect. As such, it looks like Metal Wolf Chaos XD will be "going into overtime", though not in quite as much of a fun way as RCG did.
The first stage of the night should've been a sign of things to come. Jesus Christ, what an annoying boss. I had to resort to looking at the guide I found and a video. Turns out the hitboxes on its tank treads are remarkably buggy, so the best solution is to effectively blast the sucker to smithereens and ignore the game's advice. It took me a long time to find the proper combination of weaponry to deal enough damage to take it out -- like, well over an hour.
The next stage, by comparison, was a breeze. Well, it's not like I beat that one on my first try, but I definitely had way less trouble with it. It was one of those standard "destroy the target" levels, culminating in a "boss fight" with a tricked-out White House, covered in armor plating and missile launchers. The funny part is that I wasn't even aware of the achievement for failing that mission in the worst way possible. So it was a little shocked to actually obtain it.
Then came the ultimate showdown with RICHAAAAAAAAAAAARD! Maybe I could've found the strength to grind my way through it if I hadn't wasted so much time trying to figure out the Liberty Island fight. But as it stands, I just didn't have the mental fortitude left to finish the fight. On the plus side, at least I've got more than a single stage left for next time. I just hope I don't have to backtrack to grind for more money and rare metals. That would be a complete bummer.
