The soldier and the monster / Lets Play Time is solid here (ending)
We are finishing our task to clean the paintings of limbo in my second (and last) episode of Time is solid here, developed by Algebra Falcon. This part is a lot more horror than the previous ones but equally sad and thought-provoking about the characters stuck in these paintings (some further thoughts below but beware, spoilers).
Play the game yourself, follow the devs and give them some love: https://algebrafalcon.itch.io/time-is-solid-here
SPOILER
So, I think the reason why the soldier ended up in limbo and not in hell is because they realized what they were turning into and they saw the atrocities they committed for what they were and committed suicide. And since this act was to prevent them from doing any further harm to people but also to not turn fully into the monster, their fate still had to be decided.
I also have the slight idea that the long way between the hospital hallways with the monster and the actual hospital room with the soldier symbolizes how far the monster was from the soldier’s humanity/heart. There’s this thing were people see themselves doing something horrendous as if they are not part of it but rather detached and maybe that was the developer’s way to visualize it.
As to the ending: I do think that our dear protagonist either ended up in their own painting, waiting for someone to help them move on OR that their actions regarding the other paintings already helped them move (hopefully to a better place). Although I think it could be quite a fulfilling afterlife helping others to move on (especially if you get to spend it with the big head, they seem like a cool person t have around).
