Time Stalkers was released only on Dreamcast in September of 1999 in Japan and in US. About one year later, in November the game saw it's release in Europe. Time Stalkers is one of the better and most known titles from the fairly unknown japanese developer Climax Entertainment. Climax has also developed Dark Saviour for the Sega Saturn and the classic Shining in the Darkness for Sega Mega Drive.

Time Stalkers is one of the very few typical Roguelike games on the Sega Dreamcast and was advertised as the first "real" RPG for the console. It features randomly generated dungeons and an expanding world whos origin is both a mystery and very much unknown. As the game's story moves along you will also meet a handfull of characters who will help our hero on his journey.

There is really not much else to say about Time Stalkers. We really wanted to like this game. It has some cool features. The rougelike elements like the randomly generated dungeons and enemies that have a mood meter (a happy enemy don't attack you), but it just gets old really fast.
And as you might see in our video; if you die in a dungeon, you will more or less start from the beginning equipment-wise and you will get your ass handed to you over and over again.

And Time Stalkers wasn't that well received by critics either. The games rating on gamerankings.com is 52% and some noteable reviews are 6.5/10 from IGN and a 4/10 from the official UK Dreamcast Magazine. Ouch...

All in all. It's not impossible to have a good time with Time Stalkers. If you get into a nice flow (without deaths) you might have a nice RPG adventure. Otherwise, there are far better RPGs on Dreamcast.

But a fun fact is that characters from other Climax Entertainment games make a appearence in Time Stalkers; like Yoghurt from Shining Force and Cox from Lady Stalker.
