Shadows of Evil is my favorite map of all time, but even I have to admit it’s not perfect. Here’s five things it did wrong.
#5: The Xenomatter part for the wonder weapon is not a great idea. It’s entirely random, which takes all thought and strategy out of the wonder weapon quest.
#4: Shadows of Evil doesn’t have a great cast of characters. Nero is great, largely due to Jeff Goldblum’s performance, but everyone else leaves a lot to be desired.
#3: Going back to the wonder weapon, there’s no upgrade. It doesn’t make much sense when the upgraded weapon already exists. Even if the quest wasn’t finished, just let me put it in the Pack-a-Punch machine instead.
#2: The last step of the Shadows of Evil Easter Egg is not only the only step in the entire Easter Egg that’s required for co-op, but the only step in the entire game that requires co-op. It’s completely unnecessary and a massive hurdle for any solo players trying to complete the Super Easter Egg.
#1: Shadows of Evil had incredibly slow pacing at launch. The rituals for Pack-a-Punch took way longer and you could only carry one Gateworm at a time. It slowed down the early game and turned a lot of casual fans away from the map.
