E4M8 comparison is not relevant. E4M1-E4M7 time is improved by 43 seconds.

E4M8 is not counted towards the episode record, so record time is 4:27, even though the full episode is 5:42. The reason M8 is not included is because dos version does not display the time for the final map. Even though that is no longer relevant as sourceports can determine the time, the convention is still kept.

Description:
A 43 second improvement over the previous record by King Mamba.

E4M1: I take it a bit slow here to get as many attempts past it as possible, so that I can die later on E4M6 instead.

E4M2: We used to grab the plasma rifle here.. I don't know why. I suppose it makes the BFG grab a bit easier since the cacodemons move away meanwhile, but I have a simple setup for that now so it's no issue. The imp that died by the start was just such a strange sight to me, he just flew away so quickly. When weird stuff like that happens I feel like it's a sign that this is the one that goes all the way, and it was :)

E4M3: Lost souls move too quickly to be able to rocket jump across like in UV. Not a problem since you can run across instead, but it's rather precise so I need to do a setup and not get hit by anything. The major downside to this is not getting the backpack which allows you to carry 600 cells + mega armor + more cells to pick up.

E4M4: Invulnerability on this level makes it trivial, don't really need to worry about the health either because of the soulsphere here and on the next level. I do try to keep the armor from E4M2 though all the way to the end of E4M6.

E4M5: BFG everything at the start, I'll max my cells out at the start of E4M6 anyways. Grab the plasma rifle here instead.

E4M6: Oh boy, E4M6. I take the beginning really slow to maintain my health/armor which is super important obviously. Grab 300/300 cells and just try to clear out everything as quickly as possible while still having 160 cells remaining after red key. Hope nothing respawns so that I can clear any cacodemons in the way with the BFG, then need to make the jump into the central teleport platform, BFG anything infront of me, and then just hope the cyberdemon is infighting. It's not actually that bad, because he often seems to be busy infighting on nightmare. Having enough health throughout all of it is the biggest concern, here I somehow had over 100 health left.

E4M7: I was a bit confused on what to do for a moment, because I did not expect to enter this level with so much health. I expect to have low health here and go grab the berserk, but here I could just skip that. Was afraid of failing the jump to the exit, seemed easy enough as long as you do it quickly, but you never now what can hit you there.

E4M8: Easy enough, so much health, armor and cells, just BFG everything.
