Vagrant Story - Spears Only Minimalist Run - Part 38: In Which Ashley Kills a Nightmare

I was not expecting this guy to give me nearly so much trouble. I must have run this fight nearly 40 times before I finally got this capture.
Speaking of, I mess up the shortcut jump here way too many times for it to be worth it, but I was so many attempts into this I just didn't care anymore.
2:34 Nightmare is more difficult than the other daevas for a couple of reasons. The primary issue with him is offense. Since I don't have a Fusion spell for Light, I can't use the exact same setup I do on the other daevas. As a result of my hampered offense, Nightmare will likely live long enough that my Risk gets so high that his Meteor Level 3 will do more than 250 damage.
Worsening matters further, rather than knowing an additional attack spell like Acid Flow or Gravity he instead knows Curse, which cancels my buffs. I don't have sufficient MP to counter Curse and rebuff in this already extended fight.
Curse is ultimately the key to this fight. Once you realize that Nightmare prioritizes it if you have any sort of stat buff on (like Herakles), then the strategy becomes a matter of staying beyond the casting range of Curse. This will typically cause Nightmare to waste a significant amount of time moving closer to get into Curse range, which will reduce the number of attacks he gets before you kill him.
Beyond that it's simply a matter of repetition and luck. I get extremely lucky in this particular run and Nightmare casts Dark Chant 3 times. On those first two turns I could have survived a Meteor, but by his third turn my Risk is so high that a Meteor would have done more than 250 damage.
One final minor note here: this is the final stat wheel. I think it's an interesting bit of trivia that all of the bonus stats in the game added up to exactly +100 HP on my run. That will give me a nice obvious cutoff threshold for the Guildenstern fights.
