Valkyria Revolution | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
152Valkyria Chronicles was one of my favorite games back on the PlayStation 3 and since then we have had several sequels on different platforms. I was surprised to find out that a unique game in the series actually came out on the PlayStation 4 and has been stuck on there ever since. This meant it was the perfect game to add to my archives in order to prevent it getting lost to time. Valkyria Revolution is a very different game than any of the other Valkyria Chronicles.
Instead of the turned based battles that combine real time movement and third person action, it is now a full on melee action game. We follow a story of political intrigue between different warring nations. Since this is set many years before Chronicles much of the tech is still primitive. There are robots and mechs, but most of the fighting is done with swords.
The fact that it is melee and real time makes it to where it is not as much a strategy game as the other entries, which is a shame. I thought it was the unique mix between different genres that gave Chronicles its own identity. That identity is a little lost with this game. I also have to admit that some of the characters were not as charming or memorable as in Chronicles.
Nevertheless I do think its noteworthy that the developers tried something different and wanted to tell a story in the same universe with a different approach. I think the game was both critically and financially not a success, so I don't know if we will ever see another Valkyria game in this style again.
But having completed and archived this game, I can now finally begin to archive my beloved original Valkyria Chronicles.
