Hey everyone it’s Randy from Game & Gig. Today’s one minute game review is on Deathloop from Arkane Studios. The advertisements and trailers for Deathloop (and there were a lot of them) led me to believe that this game would be a run-based Roguelike or Roguelite: a genre of game that I don’t have much experience with and that honestly intimidates me. It didn’t seem like my cup of tea: But once the game received more nominations at the Game Awards than any other game in 2021, I had to give the game a shot. Once I got into Deathloop, I found out the game really wasn’t run-based at all. Sure, the story heavily revolves around Colt being trapped in a time loop, but because you can choose where and when you start each loop, the gameplay ends up being almost entirely mission based. You can’t even attempt a full run until you’ve finished all the missions the game gives you. I might argue that the game could be considered the lightest of Roguelights, but let's not get too caught up in labels. The real question is, “is Deathloop worth your time?”. Well, I can say that, although I’m not a fan of FPS shooters, the game was still enjoyable to me. The shooting mechanics were tight and satisfying, the story was interesting (if a little simplistic), and the movement was extremely fluid and fun. The game wasn’t overly long, and at the end, when you ARE finally tasked with completing a full run, the game reaches peak excitement. Overall, I think that, if you enjoy shooters, you will probably love Deathloop.
