World War 2 took place from between 1939 and 1945, it grounded many, many careers - all of which we cannot discuss in such a short video. It stopped two World Cups in 1942 and 1946 from happening. Those that suffered the most from this situation was Argentina, who missed out on a number of World Cup participations, with a Golden Generation that featured Adolfo Pedernera. Stanley Matthews came back to football and managed to prolong his career fantastically, but the would-be peak period of his career would have taken place during the war.
