Why computer game designers should make tabletop games
Coinciding with the Iron Chef tabletop game design competition on 10th April 2016 special guest Steve Dee was up from Sydney and gave a special talk outside the normal GDB schedule.
In the last twenty years, table top gaming has gone through a great golden age. The hobby is more popular than ever, and design is reaching new heights and finding entirely new angles. But even if that wasn’t the case, no game designer should be in the dark about whole sections of game design just because it doesn’t use pixels. In this talk, Steve explains why trying to design computer games without also working in tabletop is tying one hand behind your back.
Steve Dee has been professionally writing about, reviewing and designing tabletop games for twenty years. He blogs about all of this at dconstructions.wordpress.com He also runs The MESSAGE, a group built to encourage men to stand up against sexism in gaming, and you can find out more at www.gamermessage.com.
