Simply put, just like how the speed you move through space can change, so can the speed you move through time, and when you move faster through space, you move slower through time.
Something sitting still in space will move the max speed through time, while something moving at the max speed through space, like a photon, won’t move through time at all.
This is why you can’t go faster than light. As you get close to the speed of light, instead of moving faster and faster through space, you end up moving slower and slower through time.
This has the effect that, if you were to go on a trip on a spaceship travelling near the speed of light, when you returned you would find that much more time has passed on Earth, and everyone there will have aged much more than you.
