Why is Doom Guy not in Super Smash Bros Ultimate? Is he going to be one of the first fighters to be announced for the Fighters Pass 2 DLC for Smash? Don't count on it. According to Marty Stratton of id Software, Doom Slayer is not coming to Smash any time soon, because Nintendo doesn't want him.
Apparently is Software has been trying their best to convince Nintendo to feature Doom as an Easter Egg in Smash, or to include Doom Guy as a playable character. Nintendo is having none of it. Maybe Doom just doesn't fit the brand, or maybe the games are too violent. Regardless, this is one potential Smash fighter we won't be seeing any time soon.
That is, assuming that id Software and Nintendo are telling the truth. Masahiro Sakurai has been known for surprising people. Of course, we don't want to speculate too wildly. For now, let's assume that Doom Guy won't be coming to Smash any time soon, even as Doom Eternal releases, and work on its Switch port continues.
