"Why Is Traumatic Death Hard To Get Over?"Thank you vlog & Grief Stages | Psychotherapy Crash Course
Although I believe the death experience to automatically be traumatic for loved ones and friends, I tend to lean toward the view that "traumatic death" is worse. I consider "traumatic death" to be anything unexpected such as a deadly infection, murder, assault, a fatal car crash, sex-related homicide, race crime, etc. Traumatic death can result in symptoms of PTSD, central nervous system dominance (see my previous videos on this), flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, chronic stress, burn-out, etc.
In this video, I just want to share my thoughts after the loss of a loved one and thank you for your condolences. In the next video, I will be talking about "traumatic death" and the signs you may be experiencing PTSD-like symptoms.
As a trauma therapist, I have counseled multiple clients who struggle with the concept of loss and grief. One common exploration I often engage in with clients is that of acceptance. Many of my clients, past and current, cannot fully conceptualize how to “accept” their grief and the loss they have experienced. One of my previous clients asked me a good question at the end of a “heavy” session. She stated, “how am I supposed to accept what has happened to me when I can’t get it out of my mind? The pain. The sorrow. The betrayal.”
