Wish List - What Are We Hoping For From The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct
Well, this is it, the final night before the Nintendo Switch Direct on April 2, 2025. Since Nintendo had their hand a bit forced to reveal the Switch 2 back in January, there's been a lot of speculation, analysis, and thoughts about this new system. We've even made a video or 2 on the system with our own thoughts. With everything being revealed in about 12 hours, what makes our Nintendo Switch 2 Wish List? What are we hoping for from the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation? Let's take a look.
Build Upon What Made the Original Awesome:
Nintendo is going into the Switch 2 with a ton of momentum, unlike how they went into the Switch with the Wii U. The overall system has been terrific with amazing first-party titles, a great hybrid approach for both docked and handheld gaming, and something that appealed to a wide variety of people.
The Wish List:
Fix the Lag
The Switch 2 will clearly be more powerful, but it's more than raw horsepower that is needed. The Switch 2 needs to be better optimized to eliminate a ton of the lag in the menu and online service. Have you scrolled through the eShop lately? You can time scrolling with a sundial, it is so painfully slow! This must improve.
Increased Onboard Storage
32GB of onboard storage wasn't even acceptable when the Switch Launched, and neither was the 64GB of the Switch OLED. With the transition to digital gaming, the Switch 2 MUST have more onboard storage, and just 128GB isn't sufficient. 500GB at MINIMUM is what I am hoping for, especially when you can get a 500GB or larger micro SD card for a very reasonable price. Yes, I'm still expecting a Micro SD card slot, but don't force my hand to buy more storage.
Improved Battery Life
Now, admittedly, the Switch OLED and Switch Lite both have good battery life, but it could always be better. I don't think they need to increase the battery size, but instead, I think they could optimize the software to make better use of the onboard battery. Currently you can get 3-4 hours out of the existing Switch Hardware, so 5-7 hours would be amazing.
4K Docked & 1080P handheld
Legit, I can't tell that the original Switch is only 720P in handheld, and most people can't. But just to help in the spec war 1080P in handheld and 4K docked should be the minimum acceptable resolution for the system.
Pricing:
If the Switch 2 is $399, this thing will sell like crazy, $449 it will sell decently, and $500 will see it struggle. Yes, inflation is real, and Nintendo doesn't sell their systems at a loss. I do think it will be more than the Switch OLED, it has to. I think there's an outside chance of $449, but if we see $499 I think the Switch 2 will have a very difficult challenge. It is less powerful than the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5, and it needs to be priced less than those more powerful systems.
