NEW METROID 4 FOOTAGE! NEW X-MEN GAME! March Nintendo Direct Reaction
34In the last Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED Nintendo Direct, Nintendo did what Nintendo does and added quite a bit of fanfare and showmanship to what many may consider to be not very good games. We sat down and watched the latest Nintendo Direct, and here are just some of our initial views as we got new footage of Metroid 4, a new Gradius collection, a new X-Men game, and a ton of RPGs.
Metroid Prime 4:
I have to admit I was a bit surprised to see this show up, as I assumed that it would be fairly exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. I was wrong. We got to see the latest gameplay of Samus, hear about some of her new abilities, and even see a new suit. Overall, this was very promising, and it looked quite good. They did not indicate, however, if this was on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.
Gradius Collection
One of my favorite series from the original Nintendo Entertainment System has to be Gradius. This is such a fun shoot 'em up that has aged extremely well. In Japan, they had salamander, we had life force, and of course, Gradius. It was announced that we would be getting an all new greatest collection featuring Gradius 1 through 3, Life Force, and a new Salamander sequel. I'm a bit disappointed we did not get a Parodius game in this collection, as that series was based upon Gradius to begin with.
X-Men Cosmic Invasion
This looks amazing! Take the old X-Men 4 player arcade game and give it a modern flair on the Switch, and you have what looks like an extremely solid side-scrolling beat 'em up. I love the opening cinematic on this, with Captain America throwing his shield, we get old school mustard uniform wearing Wolverine and the crew beating up a ton of baddies. I just really hope that this is a physical release.
Changes to Nintendo Direct
Nintendo announced that they will be changing how they communicate to gamers, and instead of simply doing monthly videos, they will be doing potentially daily updates through a new app on your phone or tablet. This is a unique change that they are going through. I just hope they can maintain the platform with relevant content.
So many RPGs
As I was watching the Direct, I noticed a comment indicate that this was the shovelware direct, and at least for me in the beginning that's exactly what it felt like. They announced new RPGs from so many different manufacturers that I just do not care about.
