Wonder Boy III Monster Lair - Arcade - Intro, attract & playthrough [UHD 4K 60fps]
Full playthrough / walkthrough / longplay of the System 16 arcade game Wonder Boy III Monster Lair the worst game in the Wonder Boy. The third and final arcade game in the Wonder Boy series is an uneasy mix of gameplay from the previous two arcade games crossed with the shooter genre. To say it is the weakest game in the series is an understatement as it’s an awful game. Boring, overly long and difficult describe the game perfectly, by all accounts it wasn’t a popular title in the arcades either and as a result was rather hard to find in arcade form. That section is taken straight from our review, which you can read here: http://randomisedgaming.tumblr.com/post/76858675087/sega-ages-2500-series-vol29-monster-world
Yes, Wonder Boy III Monster Lair is a turkey and one that will leave your hand numb from having to mash the fire button for an hour. Some bosses are bullet sponges that soak up shots like no tomorrow. So the telling fact here about the game is that the Monster World Complete Collection doesn't include a super play video of this one. Wonder why? Well with save states any tom, dick and harry, can finish the game making a perfect run, doing it for real is another matter. This game is brutal and designed to steal coins like no tomorrow, it wasn't designed to be finished in a single credit and one touch of an enemy is instance death. With the sheer volume of enemies on screen that will happen a lot. It's not a pretty run, but it showcases the game in its true form unforgiving and one that tires the player.
It's rare to hear our editor, curse when playing a game, but this is one game he really hates. A few points he used auto fire to give his hand a break and remember you can't continue in the last section of the final world, so some deaths were planned right at the end. You can continue at the start of the last world, which we weren't sure of, hence why we died at the last, but one boss right at the end. This is not a fun game, in any way shape or form, will put it down to a moment of madness from the developers Westone & Sega. The Monster World Complete Collection based it's emulation on the MAME version, as a result it has some minor audio issues. As that is based on 2007 coding we captured this using a more updated version of MAME, but the game still isn't correctly emulated to date.
