Virtua Cop - Sega Saturn - Arcade playthrough with Intro, attract and secrets [UHD 4K]
Full gameplay longplay / playthrough / walkthrough / trueplay of the Sega Saturn port of the iconic AM2 arcade light gun shooter Virtua Cop. This could be described as a near perfect game and one that inspired and influenced many other titles, it was also pretty ground breaking in 1994 with it's 3D visuals and animation. We don't really need to say much more about this classic, it's just a shame light guns don't work on modern TV sets. Instead for the rest of this description, Riven Randomised Gaming's Editor will detail some of the tips and tricks seen in this video.
OK, so first off the quality of almost all the other videos on Virtua Cop is pretty bad, save stated longplays, people not understanding the score system and almost all the bonus lives and weapons missed. So we wanted to do a video where we played the game properly and showed off as many of the secret pick ups I could remember. Virtua Cop does support the Sega Saturn Shuttle Mouse, which does improve gameplay over the joypad controls, it's a trackball so isn't as fast as an IR mouse, however. It goes without saying a light gun is the best option and the only true way to play Virtua Cop. You won't be doing one life clears or even one credit clears on a real Saturn with a joypad, unless you perfectly map every movement. Sadly as we can't capture light guns at the moment I choose to use the mouse in this video.
The reload controls are awful on the joypad and mouse as they require you double tap the reload button making it rather uncomfortable to reload as you will be mashing it almost as much as the shoot button.
First off never stop shooting as even if enemies aren't on screen there is normally some scenery you can shoot for bonus points. From the hook on the warehouse ceiling in 1-3, to the computers in 3-4, not everything you can shoot gives you score, but until you blast it you just won't know. It also depends on the stage as the computers on 3-3 largely don't award bonus score. These bonus points are the key to maximising your score one you can play a perfect game. Also background enemies that don't target the player often carry bonus weapons or extras lives always shoot them if you can.
So the scoring system itself works in two sections you have the multiplier bonus and the Justice Shot (Nice Bullseye) bonus. Now the multiplier is a yellow bar that slowly fill for every successful shot, you land on an enemy. Once it fills up the multiplier level increases by one going up from x1, x2, x3 up to a max of x9. However, if you lose a life your multiplier level will rapidly decrease.
The fastest way to increase the multiplier is to do triple shots and not justice shots. A triple shot is when you shoot an enemy three times in a row at which point they disappear. For each of the three shots you will gain a small increase to the multiplier. Where as a justice shot only gives you one increase. Now in order to triple shot an enemy you must not shoot them in the head or the arm they carry their weapon with as both of these shots result in the enemy being disabled. Most of the other areas you shoot then in will allow for a second and third shot, different scores are awarded for where you shoot the end. Some enemies are scripted to fall in a set pattern, however and cannot be tripled shot. I think some can't be justice shot either.
A justice shot (nice bullseye) awards you 5000 points for shooting the hand and/or arm containing the weapon they use on you. Most enemies can be justice shot, but it's not always easy to tell which hand or arm is holding the weapon. Your first shot on a target must be a justice shot otherwise it won't count. If done correct you will not be able to follow up with any more shots on the target and nice bullseye will appear just below the multiplier. To play the perfect score game you need to get the multiplier to x9 as fast as possible, then try and justice shot ever enemy after that.
There are a number of extra lives hidden in the game and I think I got most of them, I missed the one on 3-2 first time around, but there's a clip at the end of me getting it.
There are numerous weapons hidden on each stage and knowing where they are is key to a high score. This video shows most of the hidden weapon loactions in game.
