The Circle of Death... what a massacre! Especially at the beginning with all the hitscanners, and then in the blue key area; there are so many things that can go wrong. The archvile can target you instead of the imps, the cacos can kill you, the arachnotrons can kill you, and if you try to make them in-fight... they can kill you both. It was quite frustrating as 90% of my runs ended in death in this part. If you get past this area however, things get easier and the probability of dying is low; but you can still fail for having a slow time.

I followed the route of [Radek Pecka, 2002], which is mostly the same as the UV Max route. I did a few small changes to try and optimize the route, namely: I started the round by shooting immediately to try and get better starting RNG; I ran past the first pain elemental while shooting it backwards to pickup the difficult to access cell packs on both sides of the stairs; and I shot a rocket at the wall to hurt the last pain elemental in advance before falling into the cacodemon pit. I wanted to save a BFG shot for the arachnotron at the exit, but I failed to kill all the cacodemons with just 2 BFG shots, so I had to shoot the 3rd.

The beginning of this run was horrible; I was on the verge of resetting. But after getting the red key until the end, everything went really well. There are so many obvious mistakes at the start of this run, so I know for sure that going below 2m30 is within my reach. Heck, even below 2m20 should be possible.
