Summary: I broke this part up into two parts for a reason. If you head straight back to the city and speak to the Duke before hitting the level cap, he exiles you, and bars you from re-entering the city, thus removing any chance of buying the best equipment. So I went ahead and cleared most of the Oltec Tradeway and left the one corner as I recall where there is a trader or something. Once you speak to him and he hands you something...well lets just say you won't be doing anything else in the city for the rest of the game.

So! This video will be a somewhat shorter one, I ran in cleared all the loot and went back to the city. It will be a short while before I upload the next one, going to level to the max first and buy everything before setting out for the final stretch of the game.

Story: (on pause till part 2, I'll just include them both together, I'll try to keep it brief, heh.)

Tip: DO NOT TALK TO THE DUKE, sorry caps button got stuck. ;) Seriously though, do not talk to the king, unless you don't care about the max level equipment, in that case go ahead. But if your wanting the best equipment before going to the final areas, avoid speaking to him until you hit level cap, and buy everything you want from the City.

Tip #2: Leveling ok, leveling is fairly easy if not time consuming, old AD&D required much more to level up, especially for mages. However anything works, I like fighting the red dragon at the entrance of the Oltec Tradeway myself.

Tip #3: Gold farming, now the tedious part, unless your using codes this part takes some time. The best way I've found to get gold on here, is to fully loot the Oltec Tradeway (minus the top right corner room of the 3rd floor, don't go in there until your ready to finish the game) and all the other caves that are accessible at the time.

Then spend the rest of the time crossing your fingers for a Red Dragon to spawn in the open world. Note the dragon in the Tradeway does not give you gold, unfortunately its a luck game at the end, RNG, just stand at the choke point at the top, near the Tradeway and wait for a Red Dragon, they drop anywhere from 1,500 gold to 2,100 gold+ from what I have noted. If you want to make it easy, use Entangle, assuming you have a mage,. If you do not, than I advise keeping your distance and use the terrain to slow it down as you pelt it with arrows and stones.
