We just got our first extended look at the new Mario game: Super Mario Bros. Wonder. There was some really exciting stuff here.
I LOVE the art style. It’s not crazy different from other Mario games, but the character models and animations are all new and look amazing in motion. But, most impressive, are the colors. This is, by far, the most colorful Mario game we’ve ever seen, and I am all about it.
We also got a look at things like new enemies, new badges that you can equip to alter your moveset, and, of course, new power-ups.
The Elephant one is super wacky, but seems cool. And the Bubble and Drill power-ups both seem really useful for traversal but also as weapons.
And then there’s the Wonder Flower; it’s a wild-card that let the game designers break 2D Mario conventions. This is THE thing that’s going to make this game feel completely fresh and different.
Oh, and online play is here. It’s implemented in a sort of strange way though, where other players show up as ghosts instead of being directly in the course with you. I’m going to have to try it to see if I like it or not. But I want to know, are you going to play Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
