Starfield: A Galaxy of Choices, But Does It Matter?
283I played Starfield as a Bethesda newbie, and this is what I found out.
Starfield is a mixed bag of extremes, both highly positive and highly negative.
It’s a staggeringly immense adventure that lets you explore the galaxy as you see fit. The sheer amount of mechanics combined with complete player freedom is truly magnificent.
I was surprised by the emphasis on combat, but I ended up loving it. There’s an impressive variety of weapons, and I had a blast experimenting and finding my favorites.
But Starfield has some pretty big flaws. You’re asked to fast travel between planets constantly. Unfortunately, it’s not satisfying, and it gets old very fast. The on-foot exploration of planets isn’t much fun either, as points of interest are very spaced out with little in-between.
Despite all the freedom and variety that Starfield offers, I just never felt truly invested in its world or its story. It never made me want to dig deeper and discover all of its secrets.
But that could totally just be me; I think that, for certain gamers, Starfield will absolutely deliver, but it left me a bit cold.
