Xak - The Art of Visual Stage [ Super Nintendo ] - Intro & Gameplay
Since I am so unmotivated to make anything now thanks to the new YouTube rules, I am uploading two basic gameplay videos of less known games.
This is Xak - The Art of Visual Stage.
Xak - The Art of Visual Stage was developed by Microcabin, who are mostly known for the Xak series and probably Mystaria: The Realms of Lore ( known in North America as Blazing Heroes ). Like many other fantastic early Japanese games, Xak was developed for the outstanding PC-88 and then ported to just about everything that mattered under the sun.
I know very little about the game except for the fact that a guy on Ancient Ys forums swore to it as his favorite RPG of all time pretty much, and anyone who knows me knows that I'm attracted to the bizzare and the obscure games that aren't well-known at all, so of course I sought the game out to try it. I feel that there's a lot of similarities with it and other RPG's of the time like Ys but that's what I like about it.
The game features the blue haired protagonist known as Latok Kart. The story goes - as according to wikipedia - Demons have once again overrun parts of Xak and in order to stop this, the King sends a messenger Faerie to Dork Kart, Latok's father who is a renowned warrior, however unbeknownst to he King is that Dork is missing. Latok however takes up the King's Quest to slay Badu ( some powerful demon ) and hopfully find his father along the way.
Until today, I had no idea how to trigger the game to actually 'start' but after running around for 20-25 minutes, I now know how to trigger the start, go me! Before I had only managed to randomly get it to start twice without any idea of what teh hell I did right, hence why you see me talk twice to every NPC at the start of the game since I thought that was the trick.
Xak is a very interesting game indeed and I really do like it's emphasis on strategic-OHGOD-action RPG style combat. This is a game I'd love to know more about in terms of being able to read the Japanese while playing it.
