Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished [ PC Engine ] - Intro & Gameplay
Today we're continuing the work we started with yesterday, namely making simple videos with the intro and gameplay of various games.
This is Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished
Developed in 1987 for the PC-88, the port for TurboGrafx-CD was released in 1989. I think you all already know my love for Ys I so I'll spare the background talk and just focus this port.
Ys for the PC Engine feels extremely streamlined. Granted I haven't played much of the original on PC-88 at the present time but this version feels very much like it wants to speed you along. Basic enemies at the start give between 2-3 EXP while the Rhebul ( doggos ) give a whopping 7, until Lv 3 where they all give 1 EXP each, making grinding them very ineffective in the reward factor and thus making you seek out stronger enemies.
I like this change a lot, along with that the game feels easier overall to play, making the fun factor an alltime high. Not to mention that if you die, there's checkpoints in place so you can have another go right away and not have to lose a lot of progress because you forgot to save for the past hour.
The PC Engine version also comes together with Ys II, allowing a seemless transition between the two as Ys II starts directly after beating the final boss of Ys I. And I haven't even started to talk about the soundtrack yet! Well.. I think you can hear it yourself!
Aside from Chronicles, I highly recommend this version of the game.
