Another EA title served up before it was finished cooking.

So, unfortunately what I hoped the devs were doing when I checked and the game hadn't switched over to being available wasn't the case. They just ended up being a day late to release. I just checked the store and the game went into Early Access on the 5th.

So do bear in mind that this is beta footage, however temper that with the fact that the game released right after this was recorded. Likely nothing was changed or addressed between this and release which is rather disappointing.

Since I've already set a pretty negative tone, lets start with some good. It's a short list...

I liked the variety of characters. They each had a unique look and their own set of passives. The character select and equipment UI looked good.

I did start to have fun with the game towards the end... That's being tempered by the fact that I was playing a beta and expected bugs. Had it been released at the time of recording, I would have been even more critical.

I think I'm out of positives...

There are a lot of frustrations. A. Lot.

The weapons feel imprecise and floaty. Not sure quite what they're going for with this. It doesn't really add anything that I can reason out and it just feels bad.

The collision on the hand models with the environment and your rifle is laughable. It basically has a seizure when you place it next to an object as it tries to move to your position around whatever you're colliding with. Now when this happens every time you *try* to grip your rifle with your second hand... It looks bad and feels bad and is just irritating.

Vision dimming when getting near any object was rather annoying at first until it clicked that I could strafe into something and it would alert me that I 'bumped' into something. I think it could be done better. It shouldn't be a full vision dimming effect but if that was the intent here it's an interesting feature. Still, it goes in the cons as I think it will frustrate more than help most people.

Matchmaking needs to be greatly improved. A ready button/indicator. A better system than a private key code for friends on the same system.

Where is voice chat? It's nearly 2019 and this is a team based PvP game. If you're trying to compete with Onward, you'll need voice chat.

Death is too easy to cheat if you're in an external voice chat system. It's also pretty damn boring. Some other death lobby would be preferable.

The item belt wasn't all that great. I don't see why these were not items on the players body rather than an invisible, magical belt that hovers in front of you. It makes it more difficult than needed to pick things up. It's also rather easy to missgrab an item you weren't trying to pickup from your belt. In a twitch game, you can't be fumbling around trying to grab a magazine or grenade from your belt.

I gave the game a lot of leeway in my final assessment due to the game not being publicly available. Now that the game has released and you can purchase it for $14.99 on Steam. The issues above are less acceptable. Once you start taking money for the game, you'd better have an at least somewhat polished experience.

Final verdict is going to be a no go with the game in this state. It needed more time in the oven.
