So, there seems to be a fundamental issue with this machine - there's some sort of short between +5V and ground ... only about 30Ω impedance.

As soon as I apply power, the voltage sags and the current limit is reached.

I'm thinking of checking the capacitors first ... removing one leg of each and checking if the short disappears ... ?

If the issue is in one of the other components, then I'm screwed ... ain't no spares readily available.

I realised that I hadn't really taken any time to look at the components - so I do that ...
