I finally got around to trying out Chris Aldridge's @HamsterSnr VGA output cartridge for the VIC-20. I used my VIC-1001 from Japan (NTSC).

Pretty simple install - just had to bring out A14 and A15 address signals to the card, plug it in and away it goes!

The machine is now outputting the usual horrible composite image in addition to a crisp 800x600 VGA!

It also works with a cartridge expander card so you can run a cartridge at the same time.

Going to experiment with it more ...
