REVIEW:
-Who actually 'played' Dominos? To this day the actual rules of the game elude me, my only real understanding coming courtesy of Ice Cube in Boyz N The Hood, so yeah I know to win I slam down my final piece and shout 'DOMINO MOTHER F**KER', short of that though it's a mystery? Stil, like many, thankfully Domino's has one other main attraction.... build em up & knock em down!
Regardless of how incredibly exciting & strangely therapeutic the experience of toppling a huge line of Domino's can be, in reality no one ever had enough packs to really do justice to the craft, resorting to the most rewarding payoff coming from the occasional news clip or light entertainment program offering some far off world record attempt (simpler time people!).
Well little did I know then that the Amiga & subsequent port to the Snes, offered a perfect opportunity to feed the desire to topple blocks!
Pushover is a puzzle adventure clothed in the usual Amiga garms that really delivers a very enjoyable entry in a genre I'm definitely a fan of.
The quick, single screen puzzles, offer a break from the more convoluted and often far more tiring challenges of entries such as The Humans! It's a welcome break to be able to retry stages effortlessly. A password is even offered for each stage, as it should be in any puzzle game!
Like most of it's kind, there's a demand on learning new tech as stages develope which can cause frustration, especially when the game appears, on occasion, to change it's own rules to suit particular levels. That said, the variety in Domino mechanics is enjoyable and it certainly forces you to think!
Elements in movement can be frustrating given everything is snapped to a grid, but given time it's fair to say this is one of the easier offerings in the genre, but still there's plenty of head scratching to enjoy.
If gameplay didnt eventually boarder on being a little too repetitive, I'd go as far as to call it the perfect puzzle game, but 100 levels does eventually take its toll. Still highly recommended.
