Here is the final 2 stage of my playthrough of Goof Troop done live on IGTV.
Follow me on instagram @CabinSNES_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no Save States.
REVIEW:
-Having handled the majority of Disney's franchise on the NES, it's a shame Capcom found themselves largely forgotten for the onset Disney's new wave of cinema to hit the Snes, with programming moving West. Capcom were at least given Disney's blessings to continue producing content for their classic characters, leading to some wonderfully different games across both 16-bit powerhouses. While the Megadrive's; Castle & World of Illusion maybe the most famous, The Magical Quest games are still held in high regard. Capcom's licence didnt end there, following the relative success of the Goof Troop cartoon, a team was assembled to produce yet another enjoyable selection.
It's fair to say Goof Troop is an easy game, aimed fairly obviously at the younger audience. Its noticeably easier than even Mickey's Magical Quest and I'd go as far as to say it's to the detriment of the game. With very little demand on the console hardware, releasing such a short game feels lazy suggesting time & workflow complications probably playing a part.
Tho gameplay balances action with puzzle in a fairly straightforward manner, acting as a introduction to the genre, its still undeniably quite a fun experience. Tho generally speaking; one hit kills, the easily obtainable plethora of extra lives renders any minor challenge even smaller, and although a game over means replaying the stage, it's not exactly taxing to try again nor is it very likely you'll need too, so long as your puzzle solving skills have evolved beyond the art of pushing the right shaped blocks through the right shaped holes!
The action side of the game is certainly balanced in your favour, however this perhaps balances some of the slightly more frustrating elements of Goofy's control encountered when picking up items or traversing pits.
Each short stage ends with a boss encounter that offers little concern (unless you've sunk 3 pints before attempting the final one-guilty!). With only 5 stages in total, even the most novice gamers likely finished this one, and quickly!
A fun game nonetheless and neat to offer simultaneous 2 player but definitely more of a rental than a premium purchase.
