Hey friends! We're back again with another SMW ROM hack, and I have a feeling this is going to be a fun one!

Today's hack is "Mario's Quest For The Water", and it follows our titular hero Mario on his quest to find where the water went. I love a product that lives up to it's name.

This hack seems to occupy that interesting design space somewhere between vanilla and non-vanilla (Is it chocolate? Did we ever figure that out?), where there are a lot of modifications to some of the blocks (For example, the sprites-only blocks in the first level), but there's no huge changes. This is my sweet spot in hacking personally and the type of levels that I generally like to make myself, so I'm always excited to play a hack like this!

The level design in this hack is awesome so far. Everything is very thoughtful and you can tell care was put into all the setups. You start to be able to notice when people drop things in at random and when they've playtested a level over and over to get the experience just right, and this definitely falls into the latter category. Plus, there's some really interesting setups for jumps or little challenges that I've never seen used before.

I love that Super Mario World still has so much to offer after all these years. Every ROM hack is a new adventure!

A hack I started all the way back in 2015, that tries to use vanilla resources in an innovative way - mixing and matching tilesets between FG, BG and sprite, changing a couple of sprite graphics, improving point and coin rewards, using features the base game has but leaves unused, reworking the vanilla map progression, and all-around breathing new life into the base resources given through just what Lunar Magic can do.

It's a passion project of mine, really.
