Hey friends! We're going BACK to the PAST with this one! That's right -- we are having our first Super Mario Bros. 1 hack!

The7SuperStars has created Squiggs World, a four-level adventure through the first Super Mario Bros. It is a land where the Spineys are extreme skateboarders and the fireballs from Bowser are taking notes, hahah.

I've wanted so long to check out hacks for other games, and this is a great introduction to that world! I've tried SMB3 hacks and Donkey Kong Country hacks in the past to no avail, and I believe this is the absolute FIRST non-SMW hack ever submitted! So thank you so much for this experience The7SuperStars, I was really excited to play, not to mention honoured that you would name it after me :)

Without giving away too much of the video's surprises, I'll say it's a quite nicely balanced hack actually, even for the short length. It was a challenge to complete, but not frustrating or unfair feeling. Even the glitchiness of the fireballs didn't feel unfair -- it just felt like a nice added challenge!

The graphical changes in this hack were also really cool! The Fire Flower in particular stood out to me, but there were a lot of subtle graphical changes that I didn't realize until editing later. For example, did you notice the fireballs and fire rods are made from hearts? I missed that somehow, but you can't miss it when making thumbnails, hahah. I could tell they were different, but it took the editing run-through to tell what they are.

I had a great time playing this friends, I hope you had just as much fun watching! Description:
Hey Squiggs! I made a SMB1 hack for you :D. Unfortunately its a bit glitchy, spinies and Bowser's fire spaz out sometimes, and it does crash a bit, but I think I fixed most of the instances where these occur. I'd recommend save stating so you don't have to put up with crashes. Its just level 1-4, but I can't see myself making it any longer. I'm not going to be distributing it, feel free to give it to anyone who wants it, but I'll just be giving it to you.
One last thing, I've been working on some custom graphics, and was wondering if you could give me some criticism on the ones in this hack. In my previous hack Marios Not-So Grand Adventure I had Kirbenstien doing the graphics, not me.

Squiggy's ROM Hack Romp is a series on Super Mario World ROM Hacks. In this series, I will play through SMW ROM Hacks that are submitted to me and that I pull off smwcentral.net. I'll always play the submitted ones first though! Ideally, I will use no save states and do full commentary playthroughs.
