đăFair N Round by kurayami_akiraăăMega Maker Showcaseă(Viewer-Submitted Mega Man Maker)
Hey friends! We're heading back into the fire and flames with this one, as you might expect with another kurayami_akira level! And this time we have nothing to defend ourselves with except an endless legion of robotic snakes and a few damage boosts to even the scales, hahah.
Kurayami_akira is one of the earliest supporters of Mega Maker Showcase and has provided quite a few levels so far for this series, and so far they've all been a nightmare. And I mean that with all the love in the world, hahah.
His levels are very challenging, and have really pushed my abilities in Mega Man Maker, especially when I was just starting up with the game. One of his levels was so flippin' hard that I literally couldn't even beat it! But at the same time, they don't ever really feel too unfair. They demand something close to perfection, but they don't trick you into death or hold out too long on a checkpoint -- they give you a hard challenge and then a safe spot then another hard challenge.
That's the kind of difficulty I really like. I don't mind if something is so hard that I get a little frustrated while playing it, as long as I don't feel like the deaths aren't my fault or I can't trust the level to play fair. I think there's a decent level design lesson in there somewhere.
Anyways, back to the level. It's a combination of pretty precise individual platforming challenges, mostly based around sliding and jumping through arrays of spikes. There's not a lot of classic Mega Man Maker elements like fighting enemies, but there's certain gimmick challenges like bomb platform runs and those zippy spin platforms that I love.
The boss is great too, although a little frustrating to get right, hahah. I really like the setup though, and it's an interesting way to use the Search Snake. I'm always trying to come up with boss fights themed to weapons for gimmick levels I make and I wouldn't have thought of that setup for the Search Snake.
So, anyways, I should probably wrap up this ramble, seeing as this video is already a full day late at this point. Thanks for sending this in kurayami_akira, and thank you all out there for watching! Please leave me your level IDs in the comments if you want to see a video of your level sometime, I'd love to play it. And have a wonderful afternoon!
