#667 Tekken 2 (ARC) Bosses (7/15): Bruce Irvin playthrough.
A playthrough of the potential sub-boss Bruce in the arcade version of Namco's Tekken 2.
The last of the new bosses to cover, and Bruce is yet another excellent addition. Bruce, like many of the sub-bosses in this game, is a bit sparse as a character thorough the series, though I will be covering him two more times; one in Tekken Tag 1 and the other in Tekken 5, so we'll get to see a decent look at how he evolves over the years. Bruce is a kickboxer, and while he does have a pretty good moveset here, I feel as if his general style is much more refined by a "certain character" in Tekken 3, which I'll get to when I get to it.
Bruce is good here, utilising Muay Thai Kickboxing as his fighting style. This leads to him being able to use some easily-executed, powerful combos, and he has a small decree of cross over between his punch combos and his kick combos. He also utilises a number of striking attacks to send the opponent flying backwards, and considering the speed or delay with which these come out with it means that he is potentially a very good counter-character. His design is really good too (not that that's much of a surprise, considering how good the designs in this series are), and he definitely stands out from the majority of the other characters. Overall, Bruce is pretty great on the whole, but there is a bit of a disparity between his launching, counter attacks, and his powerful combos which although dealing good damage often seem to leave him open to counter-attack, at least in my experience. His moveset just seems a bit unrefined for my tastes here, but luckily subsequent games (and indeed characters) will flesh that out considerably. On the whole therefore, I think Bruce is a great addition to the series.
Next time, we return to the sub-bosses returning from Tekken 1, stating with Lee Chaolan. See you then.
