A playthrough of the potential sub-boss Kuma in the arcade version of Namco's Tekken 2.

Everyone's favourite killer bear returns for the second of six (!) videos covering him. Indeed, I'm pretty sure he's the most consistently hidden character in the entire series, which makes sense as the novelty of a fighting bear never really goes away.

Like most of the returning sub-bosses, he gains a few unique moves of his own. Although Kuma is still very much a derivative of Jack (along with a few of Michelle's moves too), he gains a few new moves, such as a few slow, unblockable strikes, as well as a few unique throws. This includes one where he grabs the opponent, gnaws on them repeatedly and then throws them away, which is a personal favourite of mine.

I really, really struggled with Kuma here. Tekken is the one series where I absolutely prefer the quicker characters. They just seem to have such an advantage over the other characters, particularly in the earlier games. This is compounded by the fact that I have to fight my archnemesis for this series, Paul, over and over again, and it leads to a pretty insufferable experience. His low combo swipes (which Kuma borrows from Paul) do however work pretty well in the end, and against Kazuya and Devil too, so there's a silver-lining I suppose. If you can't win, find a cheap way to win instead. It's certainly served me well so far.
