#666 Tekken 2 (ARC) Bosses (6/15): Jun playthrough.
A playthrough of the potential sub-boss Jun in the arcade version of Namco's Tekken 2.
This video is cursed. Probably. I don't know. If you're wondering why the aspect ratio is off, I was just experimenting with widescreen again here, as this is a bit of a throwaway video.
So yes, Jun was a sub-boss and hidden character in certain versions of the game. In fact, you can change in the options menu of the game whether you want Jun or Baek to be initially playable. Depending on who's initially playable, the other will be the sub-boss of Law.
Jun, as I've said a few times before, is absolutely my favourite character. It'll be quite a while before I get to cover her again (touch wood), so I thought I'd be thorough and cover her potential appearance here as well. It's a feature which we'll also see in the first SoulCalibur, whether either Hwang or Xianghua is a hidden character, and likewise I'll be covering both there for the sake of thoroughness.
Jun as the sub-boss here doesn't particularly work, in my opinion anyway. Baek is just too powerful of a sub-boss to be initially playable, and Jun is pretty much the protagonist of this game so suddenly having her be AWOL is a bit odd. Her moveset is absolutely brilliant too, making her a character which is not overpowered but certainly is very capable. Her staple move is her 1+4 combo, which can lead into a incredible number of different combos, though also has a simple finisher with (1+4, 2, 4) which is a great staple combo for her to use. She can also regularly launch characters into the air with 2 or f+2, which also leads into her being able to use these chain combos with the right timing. She also has a backflip move which allows her to go into three low, sweeping kicks (b+4, 3, 3, 3), although it can also go into an uppercut (b+4, 2), the significance of which will become apparent when we get to Tekken 3. What's more, my favourite move of her's is these pair of somersault kicks (WS, 4, 4) which deal good damage and can be used in combos, including her regular 1+4 combo. The only problem is that they do tend to be countered due to long start-up, so are better to be used in air juggles. All in all, yeah, Jun is my favourite character so I'm quite biased here, but I think she has a great moveset and is just a great character in general. Shame she just didn't get to stay around for very long.
