A playthrough of the exclusive hidden character/boss Angel in the PS1 version of Namco's Tekken 2.

Well, couple videos to do now on the PS1 port of Tekken 2, and then we're onto Tekken 3.The PS1 port of this game doesn't add a whole lot, not that it really needed to anyway. 23 characters is more than enough, certainly. T2's port isn't as significant as T1's was (that of course added the ability to unlock all nine bosses, as well as the exclusive hidden character Devil Kazuya), but it's still a beloved port nonetheless. It's been over 15 years since I first played it, and it's remained a sentimental game to me ever since.

Tekken 2, character-wise, only really adds one thing; Angel. Angel is an exclusive character in a very loose sense. She existed partially in the arcade version of Tekken 2, but only as a model, and was more of an easter egg than anything else. Now however, she has her own title card, her own icon and, most importantly, her own voice clips. She also has her very own ending, which I showcase here.

For all intensive purposes Angel plays more or less the same as Devil. She's been squandered as a character in the series, presumably due to the soft reboot from the next game onwards and the devs not being sure how to implement her in the story properly. Indeed, her design is pretty weird as well. Apart from the angel wings, she bares a striking resemblance to depictions of the Greek Goddess Athena, even having a wreath in her hair as well clothing which wouldn't look out of place in Ancient Greece.

We'll see Angel two more times, which is more than we can say for many characters, so at the very least we'll get to look a bit more at this generally underappreciated character. I like Angel for what she is, though I don't find it too surprising that the devs made did much with her. Her existence seems bordering on redundant, considering Jun was supposed to be the person who neutralised (or subdued, anyhow) the devil gene in Kazuya anyway, making her a bit superfluous as a character. That said, I always enjoy when she appears regardless.

That wraps it up for all the regular characters in this game. Just one more anomaly to cover before we move on to Tekken 3...
