I will admit I have had some serious issues getting my PlayStation Portal to work reliably, so much so that I finally sold my Portal several months ago. I had posted a YouTube Short talking about the issues, showing the lag and latency on MLB The Show. Since then many people have said I needed to change settings on my PS5, router, the Portal, and more. Others have said it's due to crappy internet service. Well I have 1Gig fiber internet with supported routers too, I did all the port forwarding tricks, changes resolution and more and the Portal was still a lag monster. I recently purchased an iPad 10 and I wanted to see what the experience was like on iOS, but I also wanted to re-test out the Gamesir G8 USB-C Smartphone Grip as I had decent performance on that previously. Are either of these a better PlayStation Remote Play Experience than the PlayStation Portal? Well No. And Yes.

iPad 10:
My iPad has the latest version of iOS available on it at the time of filming. I paired a Bluetooth controller to it and got to playing. Once again, just like on the Portal, the lag and delay were terrible, making the experience practically unusable. I could see the delay first hand from when I hit a button to when the pitching or hitting meter would stop. It was God-awful! I did try the on-screen controls too, and they were no different. Finally I connected another controller via USB and it was still terrible.

GameSir G8 & Google Pixel 6 Pro
The Pixel 6 Pro is 3 generations old at this point, but I just updated it to Android 15 so that's awesome! When connected to the G8 I felt a lot less lag and delay with the game. Like it wasn't perfect, I could still feel a delay here, but it was so much better than the iPad or the Portal itself. I dare say this made it playable!

My Connection:
I have Gigabit Fiber service to my home, using a 3-unit Mesh router system. Speeds are consistently over 600mbps on my PS5, connected via WiFi.

I still don't think that PlayStation Remote Play is a particularly great service, but at least with the G8 it was usable. Let me know what you're seeing in the comments!
