One game is more responsible for selling Nintendo Game Boy Hardware than any other, and that's Tetris. The brainchild of Russian programmer Alexey Pajitnov, it captured hearts and minds worldwide with its simple yet addictive gameplay. Thanks to the Nintendo Switch Online Service, the NES & Game Boy versions of Tetris Are Back! Let's take a closer look.

The NES and Game Boy Color versions of Tetris, released in the late 1980s, brought this addictive puzzle game to millions of players around the globe. These versions offered a portable and accessible way to experience Tetris, making it a staple for gamers of all ages.

The non Tengen NES version of Tetris, developed by Nintendo R&D1, features a vibrant and colorful presentation, with a catchy soundtrack composed by Hirokazu Tanaka. It offers various game modes, including the classic Marathon mode, where players aim to achieve the highest score possible, and the A-Type mode, which focuses on speed and accuracy.

In 1998, Tetris returned to portable gaming with the release of Tetris DX on the Game Boy Color. This updated version retained the classic gameplay of the original while adding new features and enhancements.

Tetris DX introduced three new game modes: Marathon, 40 Lines, and VS CPU. Marathon mode is the classic scoring mode, while 40 Lines challenges players to clear 40 lines within a time limit. VS CPU mode allows players to compete against the computer in a head-to-head match.

The game also boasted improved graphics, taking advantage of the Game Boy Color's color palette. The vibrant colors and enhanced visuals brought a new level of visual appeal to the classic game.

Tetris DX also introduced a save feature, allowing players to track their progress and high scores. This feature added a new layer of replayability, encouraging players to return to the game and try to improve their scores.

If you're a fan of puzzle games or simply looking for a nostalgic gaming experience, I highly recommend checking out the NES and Game Boy versions of Tetris. They offer a timeless and addictive gaming experience that is sure to keep you entertained for hours on end.
